Does Solar Energy Really Have A Positive Impact On The Environment?

While there are still people who are sceptical about whether climate change exists and a few that outright deny its existence, every trusted scientist is in agreement that climate change could have devastating affects for the planet we live on. Many suggest that it is too late to hope to reverse or even stop the effects of climate change, but that if we put measures in place we may be able to at least slow its effects.

These types of things include reducing the amount of fossil fuels we use by instead focusing more on renewable energy. One of the most common ways of producing renewable energy comes from using windmills to transform the power of the wind into electricity. Hydropower uses waves or falling water to produce electricity.

However, windmill farms generally need large open spaces and lots of wind, while the opportunities for generating hydropower are also limited. This is the advantage of solar energy - enough sunlight to generate sufficient amounts of energy can be found in a much larger part of the planet.

The fantastic thing about solar energy is that the solar panels which are used to transform it into electricity can be installed anywhere where there is sunlight. During the summer months, some homes in the UK could even generate enough electricity to be entirely self-reliant. The feed-in tariff scheme set up by the government means that solar energy is not only beneficial to the environment, but also financial beneficial to anyone who gets solar panels installed.

Nobody is under any illusion that having a few solar panels installed will be a solution to the environmental problems the world is facing. But it is only by all doing our bit that we can hope to make any kind of positive change. When utilising solar energy is such an effective way of doing that it seems silly not to at least give it serious consideration.
