There are 4000 different species of cockroach in the world. Only 3, however, are known to infest our homes & workplaces and cause problems. There are a few other species that are similar, but are seen in the home a little less often. Each cockroach is slightly varied and has its own specific features. However they are all pests and can cause great health dangers and damage to us & our families.

Distinguishing these cockroaches is pretty simple & can aid in extermination methods. It could be the first step in iradication & control. The following are the 3 main common cockroaches.

American Cockroach

The American cockroach has a reddish brown color and single stripe on the head. It can grow up to 25mm in length. These roaches get easily attracted to liquor and can often be seen in drinking establishments or at home in case you had a party and didn't clean up quickly. They have a life span of up to one and half years. Their incubation period is from 6 to 8 weeks.

German Cockroach

These kinds of cockroach sport a brownish or tan color, and two lighter stripes on the back of its head. It can grow up to 15mm in length. It is probably the fastest breeding among its cousins, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. That is relatively fast, seeing one of them can multiply to 30,000 within a year. They can live for around 6 months.

Oriental Cockroach

Among these 3, the Oriental cockroach is probably the biggest. It grows around 25mm in length. These critters are a dark brown or black color with a shiny body and move generally slower than the other cockroaches. They are sometimes known as the "waterbug" 'cause they like to live in damp, dark areas. They are most probably seen in cellars or damp mulch. Incubation can last two months with about 15 eggs hatching and they can each live for up to two years.

You probably think that it is not a priority for you to administer pest control measures for your home right now. Even if it might not have crossed your mind right now, someday in the future, for various causes, you may be selling your house. No matter how appealing your house is from the outside, real estate brokers and buyers would avoid it if they notice signs of pest infestations. A termite colony existing in your home's foundation could very well lessen the resale value of your home. All the more, banks can be very strict in approving loan applications, especially if you will use your residence as collateral; you may find your application refused if the bank representatives discovered pest infestations in your household when they come over for ocular inspection. So, in order for your property to remain as a smart investment, just consider the fee for hiring an expert pest exterminator as a safeguard to the conservation of the structural quality of your abode.
